Last month Due to his age, Mr Bernd Gützold, owner and CEO of Gützold Modelleisenbahnen has decided to sell his business off. This, in German, is called "liquidation" (as in "liquidifying the funds tied up", and has absolutely nothing to do with "insolvency". Gützold is not closing down because they are broke.
Apparently, Mr Gützold has been in contact with a leading TT scale manufacturer; when these negotiations failed, he appointed a liquidator with selling his business off. Tools, stock, spares, everything.
Spare parts are well stocked and will be available for 6 months, however, no new spare parts will be produced. When a part is gone, it is gone. Hint: spares are best ordered by phone (tel.: +49 (0) 375 - 58959-0, tax: +49 (0) 375 - 523836 - don't forget to give your delivery address to ensure that the good people at Gützold can actually ship your parts).
This information has been derived from Gützold's website as well as an interview with Mr Gützold himself in the most recent MEB (Modelleisenbahner) magazine and can thus be considered "official".
For those interested in Gützold models, their niche was Saxonian and East German prototypes, even obscure ones such as the class 156. Their class 19 "Pride of Saxonia" won several awards and was later released as an era II model; it is a beautiful and huge engine. Derived from this was the class 18.0 pacific; their latest release was the East German (rebuilt) variant of the class 03.10.
